If you still qualify as Young (as in Young Community Organizer), then nah. (but see below)
If, however, the friend gave you a suspiciously good deal and subsequently goes to work for you or anyone you have connections with, you're hosed.
If you're not Young, then you need to immediately become Eccentric. That's when driving as funky a car as possible, even if you can afford a better one becomes an asset.
My advice is to become Eccentric at once. There's only room for so many Eccentrics in politics (Ron Paul and Barney Frank are taking up a lot of the Eccentric air at the moment), so I would stake your territory right away. Compile many anecdotes about how driving this car connects you to America, and you should be OK.
Populist tripe.
But I have to say, on my first real drive with it I opened up the moon roof and enjoyed the light shine in and the fresh air. Even if it only gave me a glimpse of the heavens at the top of my vision, it still made me feel more connected to our great country where as I've learned in my travels to all fifty states that the skies can be bigger than anywhere else in the world."
