Career Meme

1. Go to http://www.careercruising.com/
2. Put in Username: nycareers, Password: landmark.
3. Take their "Career Matchmaker" questions.
4. Post the top umpty results.
5. Bold the ones you've done, and italicize the ones you've considered. Strikethrough those you strongly dislike.

After doing the first set of questions my results weren't that great. Throwing in the skills, the grades in (), and education level helped some. However at that point "10. Parole Officer (A)" looked strongest. Doing an extra set of interests improved things dramatically. Finishing off the interests didn't change the results. I must say, this is the best career test I've ever taken.

I enjoyed this one a lot as well - all that I'd taken in the past had been woefully inaccurate, this one actually gave me some very interesting directions to think about even though I wasn't actually looking for any.

...I'll take it when I'm not at work and the job I love.

Heh, do be sure to do it anyways. If only to know what the alternate universe versions of you are doing.

I'm guessing they have a fairly large survey dataset that helped them derive this stuff. That said, if they nailed it this well without copious amounts of quantitative data I'm even more impressed.

It gave some interesting responses. Actually, I feel (at least for my field) that a lot of the questions were too vague. It narrowed down my first choice to an Addictions Counselor which had the same "qualifications" as a psychologist or an MFT, but was somehow higher up the list. And what you actually end up doing in it is way different.

It also somehow, somewhere in there put me in as a Furniture refinisher. I don't know how the heck it got *that* out of me. Even if it did list the criteria afterwards.

I remember there was a question on dealing with difficult people. There's also ones on dealing with kids. Those might make the difference.
