Teach a grad student to seek out these events and he'll eat for two to three days out of a week for the rest of his life. :P Whee, I'm such a mouch, particularly because I bring home leftovers.
Anyways...
Attended a speech and Q&A by Naoyuki Agawa, Minister for Public Affairs, Embassy of Japan on Japan's New Security Policy. He was a rather good speaker and while he did some ducking and weaving he did a good job of making sure he was always saying meaningful things and not denying the obvious. Might post more details later, but he seems to be a good argument for a new policy of political appoints in the Japanese Foreign Service.
Classes still going well, staying with or ahead on them (with some technical difficulties in Chinese that aren't my fault and I've informed the teacher of). Doing good on financial aid, making up for my earlier slacking. Not doing enough on internships, but did attend a workshop on resume writing yesterday. Will try to get apps out by early October.
Currently doing research for my Human Rights: Research and Writing course. Overall topic: War on Terrorism and Human Rights. My topic: Afghanistan.

Why not say:
I'm a pretentious whiny liberal that's overly reliant on cliches to make my arguments.
It has about the same number of words and gets the point across more directly. Bah... I can sympathize with your arguments people, but cut the crap.
