Second, the way I read the domestic situation, President Bush hasn't actually taken any large risks. War is of course always risky and dangerous, but I believe the administration is justifiably confident about the outcome and subsequent popularity boost. I think by and large the president has been spending America's international political capital rather than his own personal supply. See my previous griping about Bush not prepping America for nationbuliding for further explaination of what I mean by this, I'll trty not to bore everyone with repetition.
Agree with most of what you had in two. Although to a certain degree, I believe France was jockeying for power and pursuing economic interests rather than neceessarily reacting to Bush.
Finally, I believe we'll suceed in rebuilding Iraq if we have the will to do it. Although, as much as I knock the admin, at least they are being aggressively rhetorically pro-democratic. I just hope the misteps in regard to preparing for the next stage were mistakes and not indications of lack of concern...
Time will tell. I'm hoping your optimism is right. :)
